On World Outlander Day, we let you know how to celebrate in time-travelling-television style with an event like no other at Stirling Castle
Happy World Outlander Day!
1 June 2021 marks 30 years since Diana Gabaldon published the first novel in what has come to be known as the Outlander series. A best-selling collection of books and a cult TV series have followed. The the “Outlander effect” has taken the world by storm!
Set in eighteenth-century Scotland, it’s not difficult to see why so many people have fallen in love with Outlander. The gripping storyline, historical context and beautiful locations make for a fascinating read or watch.
Much of the globally loved Outlander TV series was filmed in and around Scotland’s Central Belt. Our very own Stirling Castle is close to a number of key filming sites. The iconic stronghold will enthral any Outlander fan, and it provides an atmospheric setting for an unforgettable themed corporate event.

Situated at the heart of the castle, Stirling’s Great Hall is the largest medieval banqueting hall ever built in Scotland. It was created in 1508 for James IV to seat up to 500 guests for feasts, banquets and dances. These days, the Great Hall is able to accommodate 200 for a banquet (in normal circumstances) and remains one of the grandest locations in the country for a gala dinner or event for up to 300 guests.
Designed by one of our technical production partners, 21CC Productions Limited, our Outlander themed banquet package provides magic and entertainment. Guests are ‘transported back in time’, but with the luxury of modern conveniences and no risk of a battle breaking out!

A specially created menu has been designed by our caterers Benugo. It’s prepared and cooked on site using the very best from Scotland’s larder. Courses for your feast include Orkney scallops, highland venison and Perthshire raspberry parfait featuring as the piece de resistance. While we can’t promise an appearance from Jamie or Claire, Clan Warriors can be arranged, along with an authentic pipe band, to add even more drama to the Clan MacKenzie style feast.
The Great Hall provides an impressive backdrop, with the expanse of huge banqueting tables the length of the room. Visitors truly take a step into history as they step in the door – without falling through a stone circle! Decorated with props such as wagons, a well, candelabras, goblets and stunning Scottish floral displays, using locally sourced gorse and heather, it really sets the scene for an eighteenth-century extravaganza.
There is no doubt that Stirling Castle’s Great Hall is one of Scotland’s most historic, unique and impressive venues. If you’d like to know more about how you can work with us to create an event fit for a Fraser, contact our events team at functions@hes.scot.
